Spaceframes in the 25th Century

In writing spaceframes for Star Trek Adventures using the roster of ships from Star Trek Online, I’ve started to tackle advanced spaceframes from the 25th century. These starships include some advanced armaments and technological advances that are just plain better than those of the Next Generation era. Rather than tie up those advancements in valuable Starship Talents, these are the changes I recommend for spaceframes designed after 2400.

Esper Genesis, Threats Database Part 2

I’m back with more information about the Threats Database for Esper Genesis. Last time, I talked about some of the creatures featured in the book and how they stacked up to what’s already available and what you might need for an Esper Genesis campaign. Today I keep going and I delve into some of the weirder stuff in the Threat Database.

What’s the Deal with Cypher Shorts?

So Monte Cook Games recently released a product called Cypher Shorts, a version of the Cypher System that means “You could be playing ten minutes from now!” as the tagline relentlessly says. The product is available for free so there isn’t really a question of whether you should get it, but really why would you want to consider Cypher Shorts?

STO Spaceframes: Federation Science and Research Vessels

More Star Trek Online spaceframes! Today we’re looking at a pretty impressive spread of ships, all the science ships from Tiers 1 and 2. These ships are all pretty impressive-looking and the variations have a lot of subtlety to them as you’ll see below!

STO Spaceframes: Federation Escorts

Next up in the Star Trek Online material for Star Trek Adventures, I’m taking a look at the low-tier end of the escort category. Escorts are always a hard sell to Trek fans since combat is always seen as the last resort for Starfleet. I prefer to think of it in the opposite direction, though: other groups have ships built for combat, but the Federation has combat ships that can perform in a number of different situations.

Superteam Handbook Review

Back today with a look at the newest supplement for Mutants & Masterminds, the Superteam Handbook. This book sets you up to play a team of heroes all working together, which technically is something that could be done with the base game. This book, though, purports to set you up with everything you need to have an awesome superteam.

Esper Genesis Threats Database, Part 1

Esper Genesis is a science-fiction D&D 5e game that I’ve been excited to see grow better and better since its launch. They have a series of adventures out and another on the way, plus pregenerated characters and a bunch of great digital resources. Today, though, I’m going to talk about their biggest and most recent supplement: the Threat Database.

Turn Review

I’m back today with a great game from a great writer. Turn is a game inspired by PbtA and dealing with conflicted shapeshifters just trying to get by. It’s a fascinating game of navigating relationships and following instincts. Read on to see why I’m so inspired by this game and check out the website to order your own copy!

STO Spaceframes: Federation Cruisers

Back today with another set of spaceframes for Star Trek Online! Last time I went over how to handle variant designs for different spaceframes and I had just one example of the process. Today, though, I’ve got twelve (!) different options for you, including a brand-new, from-scratch spaceframe (the first in this series). Enjoy!

Consent in Gaming Review

I was talking with friends recently about intentionality and how it applies to gaming. There are so many things in life that people just “go along with” but if you want a truly great gaming table then you have to be purposeful in how you approach things. Specifically, do you have the trust of your players that you’re all telling an amazing story?
