Some Videos to Get Your Sci-Fi Game Going

The internet can be a cruel, horrifying place but sometimes it’s got some awesome little corners. Even Youtube has its gems and today I’ve got a collection of videos with some great videos with thoughts for science fiction settings.

Crossovers in Star Trek Adventures

One thing that I’ve really enjoyed creating for Star Trek Adventures is writing options for non-Starfleet campaigns. It’s a big ask, though, to start a brand new campaign just to try playing Klingons, Cardassians, or Romulans. There’s another option, though: a crossover!

Sciences Division Review, Part 2

Last week I looked at the Science Divisions Supplement for Star Trek Adventures, the last of the three division supplements to round out your characters. I was focusing on the player-facing parts of the book in my last review. Now, let’s see what the campaign-facing side of the book holds!

Science Division Supplement Review, Part 1

Folks. It’s here. The Science Division Supplement is here. This is the one, everyone. I had fairly modest expectations of the Command Division Supplement and was pleasantly surprised by the result. On the other hand, I was really hoping for something great out of the Operations Division Supplement and it fell a little short of my expectations. Alien Species Generator – Beta

Hello, loyal readers! I’m back with a little more information about Dark Horizon and this time I need your help. Previously I described the random tables in the game and how they can help you to generate content for your game. Some of that content is for stellar systems (which I posted about before) but today I want to offer the chance to stress-test the alien species generator. This is for throwing together species on the fly, coming up with a new species quickly for your players to interact with, and overcoming that pesky GM writers block.

Go ahead and download a copy below and try it out. Post your thoughts (good and bad) in the comments below or shoot me an email at mephitjames {at} gmail {dot} com.

Introduction to Europan Biology

On Tuesday, I introduced a few online (and offline) resources about realistic alien ecosystems that I’d been using for “a project.” Well, here’s that project! This is the first in a series of in-person articles you can use as SolArchive handouts in your Eclipse Phase campaign (or steal for another setting, of course). Enjoy!

Realistic Alien Ecosystems

So, I’ve been looking up a lot of science discussions about aliens for an upcoming project (you’ll see) and it’s a bit of a rabbit hole to say the least. There are countless examples of aliens out there from Star Trek’s various foreheads to the tongue-in-cheek aliens of Futurama. But for a hard sci-fi setting like Eclipse Phase that won’t work. So how do you make some interesting but realistic alien ecosystems? Here are some resources.
