Merry Christmas!

Happy holidays, readers! I hope you’re doing just what you want tonight. For me that’s being slightly cold with a warm fire and a board game so hopefully that’s true! As I write this, though, I’m taking a look back at 2018. Like a lot of people I have mixed feelings about the events of the year but I’m pretty happy with how things have gone with my blog. I joined the writers at Continuing Mission and have been writing up a storm on both sites, not to mention starting RPGs with my oldest and gaining a second kid!

I wrote a ton of posts that I’m proud of here as well, some of which I’ve listed below in case you need something to read. I’m taking this week off of writing but here’s to new posts in the new year!

System Roundtable: Beyond Earth

Hello and welcome to another of our system roundtables! We’re going to be talking today about Civilization: Beyond Earth, the latest science-fiction installment in the Civilization series. I played Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri as a kid and loved it so I’ve been enjoying this as a stress reliever recently. It got me thinking that this setting is really interesting and would be a fun place to set an RPG. But what system to use?

Spot Hidden Review: Gobblin’!

Hello faithful readers! I’m relinquishing the stage today to some associates of mine known as the Spot Hidden Crew. I was chatting with them about a game they tried out to great hilarity called Gobblin’. Apparently their one shot involved a lot of the goblin characters building things out of the other goblin characters and ended with a ride in a goblin-wagon through a horde of zombies that went absolutely terrible. It sounded really fun so I asked them to write up their thoughts and here’s what they have to say!

City of Mist: The Red Queen

I’m continuing my campaign-building for my hypothetical City of Mist campaign and this time I’m delving into the antagonistic side of things. I established early on that Alexis had an enemy in the criminal known as the Red Queen, but I am thinking that’s not the ultimate threat here. It’s actually interesting (and super-noir) to have a criminal that the protagonists might end up working with. So that’s what we ended up with!

Five Old Books That Still Have Something to Offer

I was thinking back the other day to some of the awesome D&D supplements I’ve used in the past and how they are just collecting dust now (in my hard drive or on my shelf). Usually this is because I’m not really playing the games they were written for anymore (old editions, settings I haven’t been back to, etc) but there are some really awesome ones that I think I should have back in my repertoire anyways! Today I want to talk about five older books that you might not have heard of that you should check out anyways.
