Lands of Gold and Fire for 7th Sea, Review

The swashbuckling world of 7th Sea has captured imaginations for nearly two decades. It’s set in the world of Théah, a world which contains nations and peoples very similar to our own world but also very different. While there are French-like people in Montaigne, that country is most assuredly not France. Magic and the supernatural abound in this reimagining of our world, and in Lands of Gold and Fire this is taken to an African setting.

Esper Genesis Review, Part 1

I’ve toyed around with science-fiction adaptations of D&D rules (in two separate posts) but today I’m taking a look at one in particular. Esper Genesis is a new product with big ambitions to bring the mechanics of D&D 5e to the heady realms of space opera. It’s got great production value and a good energy but what does it look like under the hood? Let’s take a look together.

Unboxing Numenera Board Game

Alright, so let me get this out there first: this video is pretty terrible. This is my first real attempt at a video like this and I can already tell that I have a lot to learn… Still, people have been asking about The Ninth World: A Skillbuilding Game for Numenera and the content here is just fine. You can buy the game starting yesterday at the Lone Shark Games online store!

Let me know how you like this and, if people appreciate some multimedia on here, I’ll make more in the future!

Dinotopia for Fate, Part 3

Today I’m back with more stuff about a Dinotopia RPG, following up on the two original posts about Dinotopia for Fate. As a modular system, we’ve already got everything we need to run a Dinotopia campaign but if you’re aiming to try it then here are a few NPCs to get the ball rolling!

Ten Things To Know About Promethean: The Created

We’re back on our tour of the World of Darkness, this time looking at Promethean: the Created. Previously we looked at commonalities in all the different Chronicles of Darkness games, then took a specific look at vampires, werewolves, mages, and changelings. Now it’s time for the Created.

Dinotopia for Fate, part 2

Last time I came at you with some Fate rules for Dinotopia, I took the broad approach to making characters. This time I’m drilling down on something that’s very important for all characters and a little different from other Fate games: species. Characters’ species in Dinotopia likely affects nearly every facet of the character. Mechanically, it comes up in two ways: the character’s skill array and their species aspect.

Voice Training with James D’Amato

Short update today but it involves some homework. I’ve been a longtime fan of the One Shot Podcast Network which features a whole constellation of great shows with amazing actors, master GMs, and great alternative viewpoints. The most recent (I think?) podcast on the network is Character Evolution Cast and the first episode features James D’Amato talking about character voices.

You guys. It’s great.

The first 28 minutes is about James’ gaming philosophy and experience which is a great listen, but the best part for me was the second two thirds where he reviews voice acting tips and demonstrates techniques. I was worried that this would be too abstracted and dry but it was a fascinating listen and had me practicing various character voices in my car on the way to work. An amazing episode and I highly, highly recommend giving it a listen even if you don’t think you’re someone who wants to do character voices.

Red Alert Review

A while ago, Modiphius released a “beta version” of some rules entitled Red Alert. This is a rules supplement for the Star Trek Adventures RPG that (probably) is a preview of something they are rolling out in their upcoming Operations Division Supplement. It’s a more tactical version of the combat rules in STA and it doubles as a miniatures wargame. I’ve been interested in dissecting it for a while but haven’t had the chance. Well, today’s the day!
