Repost: Settings with Canon
With so many awesome games based on franchises, I thought it would be a good time to repost this article from a few years ago. I think it really helps and might inspire people considering games based on established stories. Originally I cited A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying and Adventures in Middle-earth to Star Trek Adventures and Mouse Guard but the list is even longer now. Tales of Xadia and The Terminator RPG are out, The One Ring has a new second edition, the Dune RPG, Avatar Legends, the Stargate RPG… There’s a lot out there, and I’m here to help you figure out how to play.

So, it’s been awhile since I talked about colonies in Star Trek Adventures but there’s a reason for it. My first few articles were setting up the narrative part of things but I wanted to pivot to mechanics next. When the Klingon Empire core rulebook came out and I read through the rules for houses I started from scratch on this. Then I read the Dune RPG and its rules for houses and started over again. It’s been percolating for a little but I think I’ve got the best version of these rules. Let me know!

Not only did Monte Cook Games just announce a revised third party license that makes it likely we’re about to see a lot more Cypher stuff, but the next Jurassic World movie is right on the horizon.
