Dark Eras: Part Two

The first time I wrote about historical settings in the Chronicles of Darkness I covered things in the busy 20th century. It makes sense that this century has the highest concentration of settings since it just passed but there’s more fun to be had out there. This time, I’m delving into another crowded century: the 19th!

History of Dark Horizon – Part 2

Last time I went over the history of the Dark Horizon setting and today I’m back with more! Since the last post was so long (#selfpromotion) it might surprise you that there were zero humans in the whole thing. Even discounting the long history of the galaxy before this timeline begins, there is nearly eight hundred years of setting events before we even get to humans. Since you all are humans[citation needed], though, you might be interested in what happens after that happens.

History of Dark Horizon – Part 1

Last week I gave you a short list of things that you could expect from Dark Horizon, something to give you a sense of what the basics of the game are. Today I’m going to go a little more in-depth, showing you the history (well the first part) of how the galaxy got to where it was today. Dark Eras: Part One

The Dark Eras Kickstarter was a really ambitious project that sort of ballooned out of control. It grew so big, in fact, that it had to be split into two different books. In an earlier post I went through all of the published historical settings for the World of… Sorry, so sorry: the Chronicles of Darkness. Now that the Dark Eras Companion is out to backers, I’m going to go through all of these settings in chronological order to help out any GMs considering them.

Introducing Dark Horizon

When I announced that Star Trek: Cypher wouldn’t be part of the site anymore, I told you all that I was planning on focusing that energy into reviving an old sci-fi setting that I have been playing around with for years. Called Dark Horizon, it was among my first creations for roleplaying games and I’m really excited to give it some new life.

Bloodlines & Black Magic Interview

Kickstarter is an amazing resource for small-scale game developers and roleplayers alike. Of course, finding Kickstarters that are worth backing is difficult and I find as many that I’d never want to back as ones that I like, if not more useless ones. Still, I like to keep my eye out and so it didn’t take long after I encountered Bloodlines & Black Magic to realize that it was one that I wanted to be involved with.

A Breath of Fresh Air

After reading through The Bridges We Burn, I was eager to look at Janek Seilicki’s newest scenario: A Breath of Fresh Air. It’s a strange mix of D&D tropes and bizarre sci-fi, much like Numenera itself, that provides a great plot for a gaming group through one session or beyond.
