After reading through The Bridges We Burn, I was eager to look at Janek Seilicki’s newest scenario: A Breath of Fresh Air. It’s a strange mix of D&D tropes and bizarre sci-fi, much like Numenera itself, that provides a great plot for a gaming group through one session or beyond.
Looks like it’s Cypher System Review Week! On Tuesday I reviewed The Bridges We Burn and I’m reviewing Into the Outside which I just got as a Kickstarter reward. This Kickstarter has been a real slow burn: the campaign finished on September, 2015 so I’ve been getting little notes from them every once in a while for more than a year. It’s like Christmas every month… which I think is how they do things in the Ninth World.
The Bridges We Burn is a five-part adventure series for Numenera written by Janek Sielicki intended for Tier 3 characters. It’s a Cypher product, meaning that groups in other Cypher games might find a lot to use in here, but it should be most exciting to Numenera fans. And excited you should definitely be.
A new acquaintance, Johannes Einloft, has kindly shared the link to his rules for spaceships in Numenera. I’m really impressed with this document and can’t wait to use it in my Numenera game.
The setting for Numenera is a blending of science fiction and fantasy. I always think of it as the opposite of Star Wars: whereas the Jedi and Empire are really a fantasy story wearing the guise of sci-fi, Numenera is a science fiction setting and stories wearing the clothing of a fantasy setting.
